> Summary: Import your risk register, control matrix, policies, and vendor lists from spreadsheets and documents into OptiTech. Documents keep their content and gain version control, review cycles, and e-signing; controls map to framework requirements automatically.

# Migrate from spreadsheets and documents

Move your compliance program out of Excel, Word, and shared drives

Most compliance programs start in Excel and Word. It works until it doesn't: versions drift, evidence goes stale, and nobody can say which control satisfies which requirement. This guide moves that program into OptiTech without losing the work you've already done.

## What you can import

- **Risk register**: risks, likelihood and impact scores, owners, and treatment plans from Excel or Google Sheets
- **Control matrix**: your existing controls, mapped against OptiTech's framework requirements on import
- **Policies and plans**: Word and PDF documents, imported with their content intact
- **Vendor lists**: suppliers, contacts, and contract dates into the vendor register

## Export your current files

Gather your spreadsheets and documents. They don't need cleanup first; the import assistant handles varying column layouts and asks when something is ambiguous.

## Upload to the import assistant

In the Console, open **Settings**, then **Import**, and upload your files. The assistant proposes a mapping: which columns are risks, which rows are controls, which documents are policies. You review and adjust before anything is created.

## Review the mapping

Every imported control is matched against the requirements of your active frameworks. Matches you confirm become live controls; anything unmatched lands as a task so nothing silently disappears.

## Cut over

Connect your [integrations](https://neon.com/docs/get-started/signing-up) and let evidence collection take over from manual updates. Your imported documents get review cycles and e-signing, and the spreadsheets can retire.

## What doesn't carry over

Old screenshots and pasted evidence are imported as historical records only. Live verification starts from your integrations at cutover, which is the upgrade you came for.
