# Data centers

Where OptiTech stores and processes your data

All customer data in OptiTech stays in Swedish and EU data centers, under EU ownership. This applies to everything in your program: evidence, documents, configuration, and the data behind the AI features. No customer data is processed on US-based infrastructure.

## EU data residency

For many Nordic customers, where data lives is itself a compliance requirement. OptiTech is built so the answer is simple: your data stays in the EU.

- **Stored and processed in the EU.** Evidence, documents, and configuration are held in Swedish and EU data centers.
- **EU ownership.** OptiTech operates under EU ownership, so your data isn't subject to US processing or access as a matter of course.
- **AI runs in the EU too.** The AI copilot uses EU-hosted models, and no customer data is sent to US-based AI providers. See [AI use in OptiTech](https://neon.com/docs/security/ai-use-in-neon).

## Where your data is hosted

OptiTech's infrastructure runs in secure European data centers operated by providers such as Elastx, Safespring, and AWS's Stockholm region with an EU data boundary, depending on your configuration. These providers undergo recurring independent assessments covering physical security, redundancy, and environmental controls.

## Why it matters for your frameworks

Several of the frameworks OptiTech supports care directly about data location and transfers:

- **GDPR** restricts transfers of personal data outside the EU and EES. Keeping processing in the EU removes a common source of transfer risk.
- **NIS2** and sector rules increasingly expect essential services to know, and control, where their data and their providers sit.

Because OptiTech keeps everything in the EU by default, data residency is one less thing you have to argue in an audit.
